Benenden School Admissions Guide and Tuition
Benenden School
Benenden School is one of the UK’s leading girls’ boarding schools for students aged 11–18. Its academic results are consistently strong, and the school places equal emphasis on developing character, creativity, and a wide range of extracurricular talents alongside academic excellence. There are five main entry points for applicants: 11+, 12+, 13+, 14+ and 16+.
Since 2008, British Tutors has supported families in Hong Kong, Singapore, and across the region, guiding girls through the Benenden application process and preparing them for success at every stage, including entrance exams, assessments, and interviews.
Our team of UK School Entrance tutors is carefully selected for their expertise in preparing students for Benenden’s exams and interviews, as well as for their ability to inspire and motivate young learners.
Year 7 Entry (11+)
Candidates applying for Year 7 at Benenden School are invited to attend a Preview Assessment Day in the autumn term of Year 6. This day provides candidates with a taste of their academic and co-curricular activities, including informal assessments in English and Maths, as well as an interview.
A reference from each candidate’s current Head Teacher is also required as part of the application process.
Offers of places are typically made in mid-November of Year 6.
Top-performing candidates may be invited to return for further assessments and interviews for Academic Scholarships.
Sixth Form Entry (16+)
Girls applying to Benenden School’s Sixth Form (Year 12) are assessed based on academic potential, personal interests, and commitment to co-curricular life. The application process typically begins in Year 11 and includes submission of predicted grades, a personal statement, and a reference from the current school Head Teacher.
Candidates are invited to attend an Assessment Day, which usually takes place in the autumn term of Year 11. The day includes written papers in the subjects the student wishes to study, a verbal reasoning test, and interviews with members of the academic team.
Offers for Sixth Form places are normally made in December of Year 11. Scholarship information, including academic, music, and sports scholarships, is sent to parents following acceptance of a place. Scholarship assessments and auditions are typically held in the spring term of Year 11.
Year 9 Entry (13+)
Candidates applying for Year 9 at Benenden School are invited to attend an Assessment Day in the autumn term of Year 7. On this day, candidates take part in written assessments, including Maths and English, as well as an online Verbal Reasoning test. The day also includes group discussions and co-curricular activities designed to showcase teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
A reference from the candidate’s current Head Teacher is required as part of the application.
Offers of places are usually made in December of Year 7. Information about scholarships is sent to parents after a place has been accepted, with scholarship assessments taking place in January and February of Year 8.
How hard is it to get a place at Benenden School?
Admission to Benenden School is highly competitive. Each year, the school receives significantly more applications than there are places available, particularly at popular entry points such as 11+ and 16+.
Benenden values not only academic ability but also well-roundedness. The school looks for girls who are curious, motivated, and enthusiastic about learning. As stated on their website, "Benenden’s unique academic programme aims to encourage a lifelong enthusiasm for learning and discovery." This reflects the school's commitment to nurturing curious, motivated, and well-rounded individuals who are eager to engage in both academic and co-curricular activities.
